When you're setting up a website, understanding where to upload your files is crucial. This guide will walk you through the different directories in your hosting account and explain their purposes. Directory Overview
At the root of your Warpline hosting account, you'll find several directories:
- /backups: Contains all backups created through the control panel. This directory appears after you create a backup in the control panel.
- /domains: This directory houses the files related to your hosting account(s). Each domain hosted on your account has its own directory, like
/domains/yourdomain.com. Within this directory, you'll find:- /public_html: For your general website files.
- Monthly logs: Created one month after your account's inception.
- /imap: This directory is for IMAP folders, especially for incoming messages.
- /Maildir: This is the system email box storage, typically containing system errors and notifications.
- /public_html: This directory at the root of your account links to
/domains/yourdomain.com/public_html. If you host multiple domains, this link directs you to the public_html directory of the last domain created on your account.
The Home (index.html) File
The default file for any web directory is index.html. This means when visitors access http://www.yourdomain.com, they're actually directed to http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html. Ensure your main website file for each directory is named index.html or index.extension (like index.shtml) if your site isn't based in HTML.
Uploading with FTP
- Obtain FTP client software: Most systems don't come with FTP clients, so you'll need to download one. We recommend FileZilla.
- Connect to the server: If using FileZilla, you'll need your control panel username and password, the server address (
ftp.yourdomain.com), and the default port (21). - Open the public_html directory and upload: Once connected, navigate to the desired folder and upload your files.
Uploading with DirectAdmin's File Manager
- Sign into the control panel and click the "System Info&Files" icon.
- Select "File Manager".
- Navigate to the directory where you want to upload files.
- Click the "Upload File" button and drag & drop items from your computer to DirectAdmin.
Uploading Through SSH
SSH allows you to sign into the server and download files directly from other servers. To connect, use terminal commands or tools like PuTTY. Once connected, you can use commands like wget or rsync to download or synchronize files.
